When planning a project, the first step is to prioritize the work you would like done. Are you moving into a brand new home or are you looking to simply refresh with paint and accessories? Here are some things to consider when planning your project:

Look through home decorating magazines and select pictures that appeal to you for any reason (even if a style or color is different than what you thought you liked).

  • Colors
  • Lighting
  • Furniture Style
  • Accessories
  • Paint techniques
  • The "feel" of the room
What is the desired effect or overall atmosphere you would like to achieve?
  • Calming
  • Exciting
  • Stimulating
  • Bold
  • Subtle
  • Elegant
  • Romantic
  • Dramatic
  • Whimsical
Look through your home and decide which pieces you love, which pieces you definately want to get rid of, and which pieces you could go either way with.

Do you have needs that aren't being met?

  • Lack of storage
  • No play area for the children
  • Not enough room for entertaining
  • Poor "traffic" flow
  • Gifts from friends/relatives that don't fit in
Make a list of these items and present them to your designer during your initial consultation.
Finally, and most importantly, what are your      budget constraints?
  • Do you want everything done immediately?
  • Would you like to work room by room?
  • Would you like an overall plan that you can refer to as time and money allow?
  • Would you like to do some of the work yourself or would you rather have your designer handle everything?
Once you have gathered this information and made some decisions, you will be able to meet your designer and begin making your dreams a reality!
